What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit. They allow the website to remember information about your visit — such as your theme preference, items in a shopping cart, or whether you've dismissed a notification — so that your next visit is smoother and more personalised. Cookies are not programs and cannot execute code or install malware on your device. They are simply data files that the website can read back on subsequent visits.

Cookies are categorised in several ways. First-party cookies are set by the website you're visiting (siply.pages.dev). Third-party cookies are set by a different domain — typically an advertising network, analytics provider, or embedded content service. Session cookies are temporary and are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain on your device for a set period (from days to years) or until you manually delete them. SIPly uses a mix of first-party and third-party cookies, all described in detail below.

What cookies does SIPly use?

SIPly uses cookies for four specific purposes: theme preference, saved calculations, analytics, and advertising. Each category is explained below with the specific cookies involved, their purpose, and their persistence duration.

1. Theme preference cookies (first-party, essential)

SIPly stores your light/dark theme preference in your browser's local storage (key: siply:theme). This allows the site to load in your preferred theme on every visit without requiring you to toggle it each time. This is an essential functionality cookie — without it, the site would default to the light theme on every visit. The data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.

2. Saved calculation cookies (first-party, essential)

When you click "Save calculation" on a SIP calculator, the inputs are stored in your browser's local storage (key: siply:saved-calcs). This allows you to retrieve and review your saved calculations on subsequent visits. The data is stored only on your device, never transmitted to any server, and persists until you clear your browser's local storage.

3. Analytics cookies (third-party, non-essential)

SIPly uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics sets the following cookies: _ga (distinguishes unique users, persists for 2 years) and _ga_<container-id> (maintains session state, persists for 2 years). We have configured GA4 to anonymise IP addresses. If you prefer not to be tracked, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

4. Advertising cookies (third-party, non-essential)

SIPly displays advertising through Google AdSense. Google may set the following cookies: __gads (ad personalisation, 2 years), __gpi (ad personalisation, 2 years), and IDE (advertising platform, 2 years, in certain regions). You can opt out of personalised advertising via Google Ads Settings at any time.

5. Cloudflare cookies (first-party, essential)

SIPly is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which sets a __cf_bm cookie for bot management and DDoS protection. This cookie persists for 30 minutes and is required for the site to function properly.

Cookie consent

When you first visit SIPly, a cookie consent banner appears at the bottom of the page. By clicking "Accept" or by continuing to use the site, you consent to the use of cookies as described in this policy. Your consent is stored in local storage (siply:cookie-consent) so that the banner does not reappear on subsequent visits. If you decline, SIPly will not set non-essential cookies during your visit.

How to manage or delete cookies

You have full control over cookies in your browser. In Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data. In Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data. In Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Cookies and website data. In Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions. Clearing your browser's cookies will log you out of most websites and may reset preferences.

Do cookies affect SIPly's calculators?

No. SIPly's calculators run entirely in your browser's JavaScript — they do not depend on cookies to function. If you disable all cookies, the calculators will still work perfectly. The only features affected are: theme preference won't be remembered, the "Save calculation" feature won't persist between visits, and the cookie consent banner will reappear on each visit.

Third-party cookie policies

The third-party services that set cookies on SIPly have their own policies: Google AdSense, Google Analytics, Cloudflare.

Changes to this Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of SIPly after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Cookie Policy.
